Classrooms During a Pandemic
Due to the recent global pandemic, schools have had to make drastic changes in order to make sure the virus doesn't spread further. Making it more difficult for teachers and students to get back into school, many guidelines have been put into place. Here at Harborfields High School the rules that we have to follow inside of the classrooms are not too bad, but for the incoming freshman, it can be harder for them to get used to. As for the seniors, it limits time with their friends and teachers that they will soon be leaving.
In the classrooms, teachers have set up their desks accordingly to make sure social distancing still applies but masks still have to be worn at all times. Also, there are only half the kids, maybe less, in each classroom to make sure it doesn't get too crowded, and since the school was split alphabetically it makes this easier to apply. Having talked to people in different grades, many have their own opinions on this situation. “Online helps me focus better because I am more comfortable in my house, and it's a little easier to manage with time. Also in the classrooms wearing masks when it's hot out is hard to do” is what my brother, in 10th grade, said to me after the first day of school.
Classrooms being so spread out is definitely a change in the dynamics of school and is going to take some getting used to. Do you think the classrooms being more spread out is going to help slow the virus in our community? This is one question that was asked to senior Brooke Buda, “Yes, I think it will help slow the spread. As much as I don't want to go to school with only half of my friends senior year and am not able to have class with them, I think it will help keep us safe.” Overall, the classrooms are set up dynamically to help keep our safety first and make sure none of us get sick during these times.
