Is The Criminal Justice System “Broken”?

In the United States, the criminal justice system is a crucial part of our country. The system is composed of more than a courtroom and a judge. There are many crucial aspects of the system that correlate with each other to carry out justice. Law enforcement, which is undoubtedly needed, is the first step. Once an accused person is brought in, they will have their day in court with the right to an attorney, as given by the sixth amendment of the constitution. This is where the accused are tried for their crimes. A trial by jury is to be given to any accused person, where you are innocent until proven guilty. Once the facts are laid out, the jury will come to a verdict. Simple enough, right?

Apparently in 2020, this fact has become just too hard to accept for many. The criminal justice system has come under fire due to a firestorm of rage from people, claiming that the system is “broken”.

What do these people mean by “broken”? They are implying that the effects of “systemic racism” are still impacting the entire criminal justice system. In 2020, there have been a handful of officer-involved incidents in which civilians of color have died. This has only heated up the discussion surrounding the system.

The deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd along with the shooting of Jacob Blake have caused outrage among the public. Mainly liberal politicians and media outlets were quick to point the finger at racism. Let’s take a look at the facts.

Breonna Taylor was in her home on March 13, 2020. Police of Louisville, Kentucky approached her residence with a search warrant. She and her boyfriend. Kenneth Walker were suspected of illegal drug activity. They knocked on the door and announced their presence. They were met with Walker opening fire on them wildly. One of the bullets impacting the leg of one of the officers. The three were forced to shoot back, and while doing so, several stray bullets struck and killed Taylor, who was walking in the hallway.

Leftist media was quick to call this a “pure act of racism” towards black people. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Here are some questions to ask yourself: Since the officers were shot at first, one of the shots hitting one of the officers, do the police have a right to shoot back to protect themselves? If your answer to the previous question was yes, then how many rounds should the officers be permitted to fire? This is an important question to be asked because the grand jury just came to a verdict on whether to bring criminal charges to the officers involved.

They charged Officer Brett Hankison with three counts of Wanton Endangerment, for firing too many stray rounds. These questions will never be asked however because the media is doing everything in their power to avoid using logic to explain what happened. If it’s anything but a pure act of racism, then that account is irrelevant to them.

They will also never report the true violence of the mob in the streets of Louisville after the grand jury’s decision. Within the first 24 hours, two police officers were shot in the streets, which looked more like a warzone than a “mostly peaceful protest”, in which multiple news outlets reported.

Due to the grand jury of Louisville declining to bring about murder charges on the officers involved, people were immediately out in the streets rioting, burning buildings, robbing stores and shooting cops but more importantly, news media stations attacked the grand jury and the Attorney General of Kentucky, Mr. Daniel Cameron, a black man. After his strong words at a press conference, including him calling for the end of mob violence calling it “revenge”, the reporters of the liberal news called him a “race traitor” and said that his words “promote white supremacy”. So after the court system made a decision, in which they correctly interpreted the law, and the AG of the state defended it, they are all now white supremacists whose only goal is to go after black people.

These are the factors that are being shoved into the faces of anyone who turns on their TV. This is what the people are destroying our country in the streets for. The simple and easy answer to the question if the justice system is broken is no.

It’s a system that has worked for almost 250 years. It’s the fairest one in the world, where you are entitled to a trial by jury with an attorney. If you think it’s bad here, go to a country where you are guilty the minute you are accused. The left wants to tear down the entire system and make it so that it’s not a problem for black people to shoot cops, riot cities, burn buildings and steal things, but under absolutely no circumstances can a cop shoot a black person.

Our system is not broken, it is the most sophisticated in the world, and we need people to support it rather than want to rip it apart.
