Movies to Hype up Halloween
Halloween this year will be different than others. With social distancing and masks, trick- or-treating might not be an option. If you want to stay in and stay safe, a Halloween movie marathon is best for you.
There are so many great spooky movies to choose from. Here is a list of some great ones you should add to your list to binge this coming holiday.
Starting off with an iconic one is IT, the 2017 and 2019 versions. IT tells the story of a clown that returns every 27 years to torutre the town of Derry, Maine. It follows the Losers Club, consisting of 7 kids. The 2019 movie is a sequel taking place 27 years after the first. If the newer version isn’t for you (which I don’t know why because the cast is amazing) there is always the original 1990 version starring Tim Curry.
Another great spooky movie is Coraline. The movie came out in 2009. It follows a young girl who stumbles upon an alternate reality which may seem desirable until she sees the true meaning of life in that world. If you prefer books over movies, there is a book by Neil Gaiman.
A great horror movie to watch is The Ring. A journalist investigates a video that seems to cause the death of anyone who watches it. There is an urban legend surrounding the tape that says after you watch it, you will die 7 days later.
Before I Wake is a good movie to watch because it’s not as gory as some horror movies are. The movie follows a man and woman who foster an 8 year old boy after losing their son in a bathtub accident. The boy tells them about his nightmares of "the Canker Man". They later discover that their foster son’s dreams come to life...including his nightmares.
To end your Halloween movie marathon and prepare for the cold winter to follow, ending your binge with the Nightmare Before Christmas would be fantastic. The iconic film follows Jack Skellington, the leader of Halloween Town. Jack learns about Christmas and wants to spread the joy of the holiday to his own town.
Halloween can still be fun despite the pandemic. Have a movie marathon instead of partying or trick-or-treating and remember to stay safe!
