How to End the Year Strong

Every school year winds down the same way. The building is weltering with heat and the a.c. is not there, it seems as if every other school except ours is done, and of course, the R word. Regents. It is very easy to get lazy toward the end of the year and not care as much because summer is right around the corner and everybody is having fun. As hard as it may be, keeping up with your hard work will make an impact for you in the end. Don’t get lazy and blow off all the dedicated work you’ve put in so far.. It is really important that you sprint to the finish line and end the year off strong.

We are past the halfway mark and everybody is preparing for their 10th, 11th, or 12th and final year here. As usual, the course guide for the classes that can be taken next year have been released and some students are surprised to see the additional courses they can now participate in.

The alarm sounds at 6am and you jump up to quickly turn it off and sleep for just 5 extra minutes. It's almost as if we as students are robots in a computer simulation. Every day we drag ourselves out of bed at 6am go to school, come home, go to bed and just keep on repeating that same old cycle.

Debating Debate

If you’re looking for an elective to help you become a better public speaker and expose you to different opinions, debate is a great choice.  Debate teaches students how to express their ideas in a clear way, and makes students more comfortable when talking in front of an audience.  In debate, students take stands on important current events, such as the recent presidential election.

Harborfields Science Research Students Featured on Fios1!

Two of our Harborfields Science Research students, Emma Johnston and Catherine Andreadis, were featured on the Verizon Fios 1 show MyLI.  They participated in the Science Journal Club at Cold Spring Harbor Labs over the past few months.  They worked alongside scientists and librarians at the lab analyzing both old and new journal articles written by scientists, including Cold Spring Harbor Labs’ very own Dr. Watson’s famous article from 1953 explaining the double helix shape of DNA.
