No Mud, No Lotus

The Mindfulness Club at Harborfields High school would like to invite everyone to participate in a school wide art installation called, “No Mud, No Lotus.”

This project will feature origami lotuses folded by students, faculty and staff which will be displayed in the airport at the high school.

Club Advisor, Mrs. Koenig adds that they, “were inspired to promote this event from a current art exhibition at the Rubin Museum, which features the concept of the lotus as a symbol for overcoming adversity. Lotus flowers grow from the mud and emerge out of the water in colorful blossoms. Even great beauty can emerge from dark, murky places.  As we too, can rise from the challenges and loss caused by the COVID pandemic.”

During this week, colorful origami paper will be provided to students during their lunch periods. While also having QR codes that link to directions on exactly how to fold the lotuses. These flowers will then be collected and hung on the windows of the airport. Where the phrase, “No Mud, No Lotus” has been painted by National Art Honor Society member, Jesse Henrickson.

These lotuses will be added on daily and will be on display until Thanksgiving break, adding a gentle reminder as we walk through the school that we can grow from this experience.

You can either acquire square paper from your lunch period or your teachers. While you can also grab a sheet of paper on your own and just get the QR code.

When you are completed, you can put them in the boxes outside of the cafeteria during the school week so that they can be added on to the display.
