SADD Red Ribbon Week

During the week of October 25th until October 29th, Students Against Destructive Decisions celebrated Red Ribbon Week. At the tables outside the cafeteria there was a basket with red ribbons along with paper ribbons.

The little red ribbons are free to take while you can also write either your name or a positive message on the paper red ones. The paper ribbons were then hung up on the cafeteria windows for the whole school to see.

Red Ribbon Week is mostly used to promote awareness concerning problems that can be related to the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. While also supporting the decision to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. This is very important to let people know that their problems are equally important through both the eyes of the school and even the world.

President of SADD, Nicole Allan, has said that as a whole, Red Ribbon Week was created to honor a soldier that died due to something drug-related.” His name was Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique Camarena. In 1985 he was brutally murdered while investigating in Mexico by drug traffickers. To honor his sacrifice many people have started to wear ribbons.

Nicole Allan also adds that, “I think that it was a great way to honor a life while also spreading awareness. It was a great way to promote a drug-free lifestyle.” Which is definitely how each and every person should be able to live by.
