Fall Fashion

As we approach November, what we wear changes according to the weather and the new season. Fall is a weird time of the year. It leaves us stuck between summer and winter. Not only weather changes, but also fashion trend changes.

Each week, the weather is drastically different. For instance, this week it felt like it was summer- 70 degrees in November, unbelievable. Yet the week before reached lows of 40. We experience the highs and lows weather wise.

Each morning I wake up thinking I know the weather until I walk outside and I’m either sweating or freezing. Over the years, I’ve learned to layer clothing. Sweatshirts with shirts underneath and jean jackets- you name it, it is all coming back this season.

Even with the confusing weather a lot of new fall trends have emerged. Something very popular this season is leather. Leather has always been popular, but this season it is definitely making a comeback, especially among people our age.

Student Kelsi Smith said, “I love that leather is back in. It really makes an outfit complete and you can dress it up or down depending on what you wear with it.” And she’s right. You can wear the most casual outfit and by just throwing on a cute leather piece, whether it’s a pair of pants or a jacket, the look is completed. It adds ‘spice’ and element to your outfit without necessarily over doing it.

Another popular trend is flare pants. I think we all have seen pictures of our mom with these on. They were so popular in the late 90s, early 2000s and now they’re back. While interviewing my mom she explained, “When I was younger and for some time everyone would make fun of the trends in the 80s and 90s, but I always knew they would come back and now that they’re here I love it. It's so fun to see the fashion trends come full circle!”

For a while, skinny ripped jeans were all the rave, but as time progresses it becomes more clear that many people would favor a pair of loose fitting jeans. Those tight, uncomfortable jeans have become much less popular and it seems that we have all resorted to our parents’ era for inspiration.

Some popular brands for jeans are Zara, Urban Outfitters, and Brandy Melville. Those brands can tend to be quite expensive, so some alternative brands are Forever 21, and any thrift store. I would personally recommend going thrifting above all other choices. It is guaranteed to find a nice pair of jeans at a thrift store for under $10 and even if they don’t fit, it is so easy to go to your local dry cleaners and get them hemmed to fit you! It is honestly so much more worth it then getting a $80 pair of jeans at a store that probably only makes them for $5 through fast fashion.

Not only jeans have been making a comeback, but also patterned pants. Anything from zebra print to stripes, it is all back in!

There are so many alternatives when it comes to fashion, especially this season. Half the time I’m sure we can all dig through my mom’s closet and find an old sweater or shirt that is back and style now and  throw it on with some cute jeans and sneakers and boom, an outfit is made!
