Worldwide rallies were held to protest political interference with the environment. These rallies were held on Earth Day, April 22nd, protesting  Trump and his decision to cut funding for science research. Organizers stated that, “it was a celebration of science  and a call to support and safeguard the scientific community.”

In France, a law has been passed that bans the use of “extremely thin” models within the industry. This ban is intended to address the amount of eating disorders within the modeling industry.

Skipping Rocks Labs is determined to follow through with the goal of stopping the production of plastic water bottles. Their first product is called Ooho, a biodegradable and edible seaweed extract that is perfectly safe for the environment and to consume. These are supposed to substitute plastic bottles that are not biodegradable. Plastic bottles can take up to 100 years to begin to decompose, this has been a problem for many years.

For only a week, Starbucks was offering the once in a lifetime opportunity to get the Unicorn Frappuccino in participating stores. Since it was released, the new drink exploded across the internet and has been a huge hit for the chain coffee shop.

 On April 28th 2017, the United States’ government potentially will shut down. This Friday, the hundreth day of Donald Trump’s presidency, has been long anticipated.

The appropriations bill in US political parlance originally needed to be passed by both Houses of Congress and President Trump by  Friday.

In Cleveland, an Ohio Facebook killer fatally shot a random victim and posted the footage on his facebook. The suspect, named Steve Stephens, stated in a separate video posted that he had killed 13 people and was not finished looking to kill more. Stephens can be seen in the image to the right.

The month of April is widely celebrated and appreciated by teachers, students, librarians, bloggers, authors, and many more worldwide. April is the national poetry month and has been an ongoing event since 1996. 

On April 4th, at a subway station in St. Petersburg, Russia, an explosion went off killing at least 10 people. Social media users posted pictures and videos that showed billows of smoke in the metro station and people who appeared lying on the subway platform, wounded, adjacent to the damaged train.

Many investment experts have reason to believe a stock market crash is a threat. Some of the smartest brains on wall street believe a fall is right around the corner.

On March 28th, MSG held the annual Garden of Laughs comedy show. They had over six comedians perform including Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, Sebastian Maniscalco, Leslie Jones, John Oliver, Bob Saget and many other presenters to introduce these people.

The state of North Carolina passed its very own bathroom bill early in march of 2016, known as the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act. It officially called An Act to Provide for Single-sex Multiple Occupancy Bathroom and Changing Facilities in Schools and Public Agencies and to Create Statewide Consistency in Regulation of Employment and Public Accommodations, commonly known as House Bill 2 or HB2.

On Wednesday, March 26th,  there was a brutal attack on the Cameo nightclub in Cincinnati, leaving one dead and 15 injured. Police believe that there was more than one person involved and the shooting was a result of an earlier dispute in the club.

Over the course of the past five months, 38 cases are open on missing persons in Washington D.C. 14 of which are girls 18 years and younger, are disappearing in the same manner. Many are starting to believe these young girls are runaways from their homes, not victims of crime. A police spokesperson stated that, “There are thousands of missing person cases every year, and virtually everyone is found.”

Anyone who was watching the Oscars Sunday night on the 26th, not only saw all of the elegant dressed celebrities but heard all of the politics focused comments throughout the night. Political protest was very apparent by viewers. Jimmy Kimmel’s commentary was also thought to be political, with several jokes revolving around Donald Trump and his administration.

On April 22 2017, also known as Earth Day, Scientists from all over will be marching for the cause. Their goal, as stated by their organizers, is to draw attention to dangerous trends in the politicalization of science. It’s mission statement states that “champions publicly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity.”

One important topic of interest and debate in United State's history is the North Dakota Pipeline. The pipeline plans on interfering with Native American sovereign land. This is between the Native American tribe, the Standing Rock Sioux, protestors, and the oil/construction company. On the opposing side, there is the Energy Transfer Crude Oil Company, and Dakota Access.
